John Mencl

John Mencl received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia.  John also attended law school at the University of Missouri - Columbia.  He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri in 1982.   In 1986, John teamed up with Robert Halas and formed Mencl & Halas in Independence, Missouri.  In 2008, John formed The Mencl Law Firm, PC in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. 

John is a member of the Missouri Association for Trial Attorneys, American Association of Justice, Missouri Bar, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and Eastern Jackson County Bar Association.  John is on the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys Disaster Legal Services Committee.  This voluntary  committee is a group of Missouri attorneys that have teamed up with the American National Red Cross to assist individuals during natural disasters.  This group of attorneys understand that when a natural disaster occurs that the people affected are not sure what to do to get their insurance claims filed. 

John has been married for over 26 years and has two daughters.  He is an avid fan of “It’s A Wonderful Life.”  He is the President of the ZuZu Society.  He enjoys collecting memorabilia from the movie. 


Laura Mencl

Laura Mencl received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She received her Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law.

During law school, she became a judicial intern for the Honorable Michael W. Manners at the Jackson County Circuit Court in Independence and worked as a law clerk for Mark Parrish at the Nash & Franciskato Law Firm in Kansas City.  Additionally, she acted as a Student Bar Association representative, competed on the American College of Trial Lawyers National Trial Team and served as President of the Women Law Students Association.

After law school, she returned to her native city of Lee’s Summit to join her father, attorney John Mencl at the Mencl Law Firm, LLC, as an associate attorney. Her practice has focused on family law and personal injury litigation.
